The Godly and the Ungodly
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 1. 1An astute son is obedient to his father,
But a disobedient son is for destruction.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 2. 2A good man eats from the fruits of righteousness,
But the souls of the lawless will destroy themselves before their time.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 3. 3He who guards his mouth keeps his own soul,
But he who is hasty with his lips will dismay himself.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 4. 4Every idle man has desire,
But the hands of the courageous are diligent.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 5. 5A righteous man hates an unrighteous word,
But an ungodly man is ashamed and will not have confidence.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 6. 6Righteousness guards the simple,
But sin makes the ungodly worthless.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 7. 7There are those with nothing who make themselves rich,
And there are those, though very rich, who humble themselves.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 8. 8The ransom of a man's soul is his own wealth,
But the poor man does not withstand a threat.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 9. 9Light is with the righteous continually,
But the light of the ungodly is extinguished.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 10. 10Deceitful souls are led astray in sins,
But the righteous have compassion and are merciful.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 11. 11An evil man does evil things with arrogance,
But those who know themselves are wise.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 12. 12Property hastily gained with lawlessness becomes diminished,
But he who gathers for himself with godliness will be increased;
A righteous man has compassion and lends.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 13. 13A man who begins to give aid heartily is better
Than he who only promises and leads another to hope;
A good desire is a tree of life.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 14. 14He who despises a matter will be despised by it,
But he who fears the commandment, this man is in good health.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 15. 15To a deceitful son there shall be nothing good,
But for a wise servant, his deeds shall be prosperous,
And his way shall be led aright.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 16. 16The law of the wise is a fountain of life,
But the man without understanding will die by a snare.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 17. 17A good understanding gives grace,
And to know the law is to be of a good mind,
But the ways of scorners are destructive.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 18. 18Every astute man acts with knowledge,
But the man without discernment spreads out his own evil.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 19. 19A rash king falls into evil things,
But a faithful messenger rescues him.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 20. 20Instruction removes poverty and dishonor,
And he who gives heed to rebukes will be glorified.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 21. 21The desires of the godly gladden the soul,
But the works of the ungodly are far from knowledge.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 22. 22He who walks with the wise shall be wise,
But he who walks with those without discernment will be known.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 23. 23Evil things shall pursue sinners,
But good things will overtake the righteous.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 24. 24A good man will inherit sons of sons,
But the wealth of the ungodly will be stored up for the righteous.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 25. 25The righteous shall live in wealth many years,
But the unrighteous will be destroyed suddenly.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 26. 26He who spares the rod hates his son,
But he who loves him instructs him with care.
Proverbs of Solomon 13, verse 27. 27A righteous man eats and satisfies his soul,
But the souls of the ungodly are in want.
